Acoustic Drum Kit
The drum kit as we know it today has been around since the early 1930's when it was realised that if a group of drums that had previously been played separately where strategically arranged together, with a lot practice, one musician could play them all at once. The modern drum kit was born.
Many changes have taken place over the years to get us to where we are today, Modern drum kits offer more choice of colours, sizes and shell construction than ever before.
The components to a drum kit varies according to musical style and personal preference of the drummer. Most drums kit will contain six key components
- Bass Drum (with foot pedal)
- Snare Drum (mounted on a stand)
- Tom Toms (mounted out of the bass drum or attached to stands)
- Floor Toms (mounted on their own legs or attached to stands)
- Cymbals (ride, crash and hi hats)
- Throne
Although the use of larger drum kits can be traced back decades to jazz drummers like Louie Bellson who was using two bass drums back in the 1940's, it's the more recent hard rock and heavy metal drummers who are more traditionally associated with the awe inspiring drum kits that can be seen on some of the worlds biggest stages.
