About Starclassic Bubinga

Starclassic Bubinga shells are slightly thicker than those in Tama's Starclassic Maple series. Tama builders concluded that a slightly thicker Bubinga shell brought out the best characteristics of the wood: a more aggressive attack, a fuller, a deep/dark tone and a more powerful resonance. Like Starclassic Maple, Tama offer numerous options to meet the professional drummer's wide and critical needs. There are more than 50 different shell sizes. The use of maple for the outer-ply enables us to offer 15 different shell finishes. Starclassic Bubinga also features three shell hardware finishes to choose from: Black Nickel, Brushed Nickel and Chrome. Starclassic Bubinga is simply an unprecedented combination of sight and sound.

It was time for something new in drums. Tama found that something in African Bubinga wood, which is approximately 53% harder than Maple and Birch. Acoustically speaking, this provides an interesting anomaly….. Very sharp and aggressive attack combined with unbelievably rich, fat lows. Unexplainable, you would think the sound would be leaning one way or the other. But Bubinga delivers both! Tama's Bubinga shells are slightly thicker than their maple drums, it was determined that this allows the drums to speak their fullest. The outer Maple ply allows them to offer a much wider selection of colours.

From the Star-Cast Mounting System to the single small lugs, every aspect of Starclassic was designed to accord with the Tama's ideal of the bare minimum of shell contact. Instead of metal badges riveted to the shell, Starclassic utilizes a maple airhole cap and a logo that is imprinted onto the shell before the final finish is applied. These features also contribute to Starclassic's rich, timeless appearance.

To achieve the sound and response you are looking for, Starclassic Bubinga offer a choice of five different depths ranging from the shallow Hyper-Drive to the cavernous X-tra Deep. Evans® drum heads are also featured on all Starclassic Bubinga drums (except bass drum front heads). On the rack and floor toms, Genera G2 2-ply clear batter heads and Genera G1 1-ply clear bottom heads provide both durability and solid sound. Starclassic bass drums are fitted with Genera EQ4 clear batter heads.

Starclassic Bubinga drums are available in 3 shell pack configurations or as individual shells allowing you to build your perfect set of drums in the sizes you want to play.

The price of Starclssic Bubinga individual drums do not include any tom arms which need to be purchased separately.

It is worth bearing in mind that although there is normally a limited stock of Starclassic Bubinga drums available for immediate purchase, most kits would be Special Order, made exclusively for the customer and shipped from Japan, taking between 4 - 6 months.
